Private gambling self-check
Nine questions, about two minutes. Everything is scored inside your own browser - nothing is stored, nothing is sent to us, and no result is recorded anywhere.
This is not a diagnosis. It is an indicative screen based on the kind of questions used in widely recognised gambling severity research. It cannot tell you whether you have a gambling disorder — only a qualified clinician can do that, and only after a proper conversation. Treat the result as a prompt to think, not a label.
How to read your score
| Score | What it indicates | Sensible next step |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | No current indication of harm | Nothing needed. Worth re-checking if habits change. |
| 1–2 | Low-level risk | Practical limits: deposit caps, blocking software, GAMSTOP. |
| 3–7 | Moderate risk of harm | Talk to someone. Free helpline, or a structured programme. |
| 8–27 | Significant harm indicated | Specialist support is strongly advised. Start today. |
Bands are indicative and are commonly used in gambling prevalence research. A low score does not mean gambling is harmless for you, and a high score is not a diagnosis.
Whatever your score, these help
- GAMSTOP — free national self-exclusion from all GB-licensed online gambling sites, for six months, one year or five years.
- Bank gambling blocks — most UK banks now let you switch off gambling transactions in the app, often with a cooling-off delay before it can be turned back on.
- Blocking software — device-level blockers stop gambling sites loading at all, on every browser and app.
- The National Gambling Helpline — free and confidential on 0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day.
